Communication Print E-mail

Communication is very important at Devonshire and is the key to a successful partnership between home and school.

Mr Kearsey and Mrs Bernardo (acting Deputy Headteacher) can be found at the school gate most mornings and afternoons greeting the children and welcoming the opportunity to chat to parents and carers.

The school works hard to ensure that parents and carers are kept informed of relevant information.

The fortnightly Devonshire Dispatch keeps parents and carers up to date with events that have and are happening in school.

We hope that this website will also prove a valuable means of communicating information. If you wish to send a message to the school or have any suggestions about the website please use the contact us page. We would like to hear from you.

Hearing the views and opinions of parents and carers is very important to us and a parent/carer questionnaire is sent out annually. The responses are analysed carefully and fed back to parents, carers, staff and governors.

The children in Years 2, 4 and 6 also complete a questionnaire and again these responses are analysed in detail and fed back to pupils, parents, carers, staff and governors. The responses to both questionnaires provide a useful basis for discussion and development for the school.

Devonshire has a very active School Council which also allows all of the children to have their opinions and views heard.

During the year, there  are two formal opportunities for parents/carers to meet their child's class teacher. These take place in the Autumn and Spring term and the appointments are split between an afternoon or an evening to enable as many parents/carers as possible to meet their child's teacher. In the Summer term parents/carers receive a written report on their child's progress.

Teachers are always available at other times, should parents/carers wish to speak to them.  In addition, Key Stage 1 teachers are available at the beginning and end of the school day for parents and carers to relay a message or to arrange a meeting and Key Stage 2 staff also wait outside the office at the end of the school day for this purpose.

Another way in which we try to strengthen the links between home and school, is a “Meet the Teacher” drop-in session for each year group from Year 1 to Year 6 after school in the first three weeks of the Autumn term. These sessions provide parents/carers with the opportunity to pop into their child’s classroom and chat with the teacher. The dates are shown in the calendar.
