The governing body of Devonshire Primary School, like all school governing bodies, is comprised of different types of governors.

  • Parent Governors – who must have a child at the school at the time of appointment, are elected by parents of children in the school.
  • Community Governors – are appointed by the governing body from a list of volunteers, or individuals known to governors.
  • Local Authority (LA) Governors – are appointed by the Local Authority.
  • Staff Governors – are elected by the teaching and non-teaching staff at the school.
  • Headteacher – the Headteacher is an ex-officio member of the governing body.

The proportion of each type of governor is set by statute and Devonshire’s composition is defined by its Instrument of Government.
