Meetings and committees

The full governing body meets once every term.  As well as agenda items put forward by the Local Authority, governors discuss and, if required, approve items raised at the various committees, agree targets and set budgets.

Most of the work of the governing body is undertaken by its committees. The committees of the governing body and their main roles are as follows.

  • Premises and finance committee - responsibility for the maintenance, decoration, use and development of the school premises and grounds; health and safety and security; additionally, responsibility for ensuring that the school achieves its short and long term goals by reviewing and approving budgets prior to agreement by the full governing body and receiving reports of commitments/expenditure against budgets.
  • Personnel committee - responsibility for all matters relating to staff such as staff structure, job descriptions, performance management and staff policies.
  • Curriculum committee - ensuring that the curriculum offered meets all statutory requirements, that the highest possible quality of education is provided and that the curriculum meets the needs of all the pupils in the school.

Each committee has responsibility for providing to the governing body a strategic view of the school's vision and key objectives over a rolling three year period in relation to its area of responsibilities. Specifically, this includes review and input into the school's self evaluation statement (and ensuring that the school development plan accurately reflects the needs of the school).

These committees generally meet at least once every term prior to the full governing body meeting so that issues raised and decisions made can be relayed back to the full governing body for ratification.
