Devonshire has been selected by the Big Lottery funded Food for Life Partnership to become one of 180 Flagship Schools and Communities across England that will be national leaders on food quality and food education.
We will be working towards achieving the Gold Food for Life Partnership Mark. This will involve increasing the uptake of school meals, developing cooking and growing activities in the school and the community as well as making links with local farms. All of this will provide a huge number of very exciting opportunities for the children and staff at
Devonshire
As we work towards the Gold Mark, we will be working closely with the Food for Life Partnership which includes the Soil Association, the Focus on Food Campaign, Garden Organic and the Health Education Trust all of whom will give us the benefit of their practical expertise and hands on support throughout the forthcoming year.
We will keep you informed of some of the exciting opportunities and projects that the school community will be involved in as part of this partnership.
The two members of the Devonshire community primarily responsible for the work towards the Gold Mark and providing new experiences and educational opportunities for our children are Fiona Oastler, Deputy Headteacher, and Joanne Kibbey, school governor. Fiona Oastler nominated Joanne as a greatest grown up as part of a competition that the Food for Life Partnership were running. Although Joanne did not win, she has been featured as a case study on the Food for Life website and the article highlighted all the excellent work that she and Fiona Oastler undertake.
