On the first day of my family holiday in Turkey I received a text message from Chris Eley, our Chair of Governors. The message was accompanied by a photo. Usually, the image of your place of work being destroyed by a demolition team would be a cause for concern but the sight of our outdoor huts being knocked down brought a huge smile to my face. We have lived with the inconveniences of the building project for the past 12 months – shrinking playgrounds, power cuts, noise, dust, minor floods – and now the prize was in sight. Durtnells, our builders, had promised that the new accommodation would be ready for the new school year. Now that the hideous huts have gone, it simply has to be ready! With the fabulous new double-glazing across the front of the school and the 2 brand new plasma screen televisions in the main entrance we are witnessing the development of the high quality accommodation our children and our staff deserve.
Apart from the excitement of the climax of the building project, the most dramatic event in the Kearsey household has been the arrival of Wilf. Many of you will know already that Wilf is a Border Terrier. With a wife and 3 daughters, I used to pretend I was the dominant male in the home. I’m unlikely to make that mistake again! To be fair, he is absolutely delightful. Bubbly, energetic and mischievous, he is drawn magnetically to everything he shouldn't touch. Whisper it softly but I am now officially a dog-lover!
