School uniform policy

It is school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school or when participating in a school organised event outside normal school hours.

The policy for school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform

  • promotes a sense of pride in the school;
  • engenders a sense of community and belonging toward the school;
  • is practical and smart;
  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;
  • is regarded as suitable wear for school and is considered by parents/carers as good value for money; and
  • is designed with health and safety in mind.

The school uniform policy is an integral part of the school's commitment to equality and inclusion. The governing body believes the school uniform policy allows all pupils to establish a shared Devonshire identity and celebrate what they have in common, whilst respecting diversity.

A copy of the  default School Uniform Policy (102 KB) is available on this website.

 If in doubt please check with the school office before purchasing items for wear at school.

Nursery

The Nursery does not have a uniform, but please follow these recommendations:

  • trousers should be jogging bottoms or have elasticated waists;
  • sensible shoes or trainers (NOT flip flops, NO laces); and
  • washable clothes which your child can be independent in.

Your School Uniform and Cladish, our uniform providers, sell a royal blue sweatshirt with the school logo as worn by our Infant children. This may be worn in the Nursery. Your School Uniform also sells matching jogging bottoms.

See also guidance on clothing to be worn in the Nursery.

We have two suppliers for the sale of school uniform items:

  • Your School Uniform- order online or by post
  • Cladish in Wallington - 29 - 31 Woodcote Road, Wallington (Tel: 020 8669 9992) - order online or by post.

When comparing the items that can be purchased from these suppliers, please check the current prices carefully. Also, be aware that there may be differences between the suppliers as to which items have logos. Note that some of the items shown on the websites are not compulsory school uniform items: see 'Other uniform items' below. The blue Devonshire sweatshirt jumpers & cardigans and the PE shorts & T- shirt can only be purchased from these suppliers.

Please download the PowerPoint presentation for ordering from Your School Uniform. Alternatively you may view this as a pdf document.

Order forms for both suppliers can be collected from the school office. These can be posted with a cheque.

Other uniform items

Other uniform items, such as trousers, dresses, shirts, blouses etc are standard items which can be purchased in most department stores and supermarket chains.

Trousers (and shorts) must be plain dark grey school uniform trousers (or shorts) as stocked by our school uniform providers and high street shops and supermarket chains. For example denim material or denim style material is not acceptable.

PE kit

PE kit should be kept at school in a named PE bag.

Footwear

School shoes must be black. School shoes must be shoes: no trainers, open-toed sandals or sling-back shoes. Shoes must be safe and sensible for playground and indoor use. No narrow or raised heels are allowed. Older children may change into plimsolls or trainers in the lunch break if parents wish.

Naming of uniform and lost property

Please make sure that all your child's clothes are clearly marked, preferably with name tapes. Shoes and plimsolls should also have names written inside. The school will endeavour to reunite lost named items with their owners. Unnamed lost property will be disposed of at the end of each term.
