Meetings and committees Print E-mail

The full governing body meets once every term.  As well as agenda items put forward by the Local Authority, governors discuss and, if required, approve items raised at the various committees, agree targets and set budgets.

Most of the work of the governing body is done through its committees. The committees of the Devonshire governing body and their main roles are as follows.

  • Premises committee – responsibility for the maintenance, decoration, use and development of the school premises and grounds, health and safety and security.
  • Personnel committee –responsibility for all matters relating to staff such as staff structure, job descriptions, performance management and policies.
  • Curriculum committee – ensuring that the curriculum offered meets all statutory requirements, that the highest possible quality of education is provided and that the curriculum meets the needs of all the pupils in the school.
  • Finance committee - responsibility for ensuring that the budget is managed in a manner which will facilitate the school achieving its short and long term goals.  It does this by reviewing and approving budgets prior to agreement by the full governing body and receiving reports of commitments/expenditure against budgets.
  • School development committee- providing to the governing body a strategic view of the school’s vision and key objectives over a rolling three year period.  Specifically, this includes the development, rebuilding and use of the school’s premises and grounds, the development and maintenance of the school web site, the school’s Self Evaluation Form (and ensuring that the School Development Plan  accurately reflects the needs of the school).

These committees meet at least once every term prior to the full governing body meeting so that issues raised and decisions made can be relayed back to the full governing body for ratification.
