The Indoor Athletics Competition 2012 Print E-mail
Friday, 10 February 2012 15:58

On Wednesday 8th February 2012 our athletics team was invited back to compete in the finals for an athletics competition. When we arrived we felt nervous and excited, the atmosphere was through the roof. Before it started, we warmed up our muscles, and then Mrs. Rouse said We must do our traditional Devonshire growl ROAR!

The competition started, game on! One of the best races was the 2x2 with Latianna & Sophia.  In the race Latianna started with the baton; she ran her best even though we were falling behind. Sophia got the baton, she ran like she had never run before. She managed to pull us into first place. Victory was won!

The competition carried on until we were near the end. All of the sudden the announcer said that there was going to be a fun race, they wanted one girl and one boy plus the coach from each team.

We decided that George, Tennessee and Mrs. Rouse were going to go and race. When they got down there every team got a professional runner from Sutton     Arena. As it was a relay Mrs. Rouse went first then it was Tennessee then George then the Sutton Arena athlete. We skillfully won the race, as a result we were put through to the final race. Moments later, the final came and we were up against two other schools it was pretty close, but we won!

We were all called to the bottom hall for the final result and the prize giving. At 3rd place we didn't even know if we would be in the top six schools. Then Devonshire! we all cheered, we walked up and got presented with our lovely  silver medals. We left with our head held high and our medals dangling proudly.

Our new building Print E-mail
Friday, 27 January 2012 14:15

The new building is a bright and colourful place which we hope everyone can enjoy.  It has 3 new classrooms, 2 group rooms, toilets and a staffroom.  It is eco friendly because it has sun tubes that make the place brighter.  There are also wind catchers, in various places so that we can control the temperature (to make it hotter or cooler) in an envrionmentally friendly way.  Dotted around the building there are blank boards which are starting to be filled up with pupils' work.  We now have new group rooms where children can work.  The staffroom is a beauty to behold as all of the staff, from the infants to the juniors, can meet up and chat.  There is a magnificent hall way that stretches throughout the school so that we don't have to get cold and wet when we go between the infants and the juniors.  Newly installed are doors that lead out into the playrgound.  To liven the place up a bit there are plants dotted around the corridors.  Mr Bettis now has a walk in cupboard where he keeps his equipment.  Everyone is excited and is having fun getting to to know their way round the new building.

The great shave off.... Print E-mail
Friday, 02 December 2011 15:48

Throughout November Mr Kearsey and Mr Eley were perfecting their moustaches because they were taking part on the Movember challenge. On the 1st of December Mr Kearsey nervously came in to the hall for the great shave off, he smiled when he saw all of the children wearing their own moustaches. To prove that his moustache was real he chose two people,(Ellen and Liam) to shave it off.  He showed us the razors that they were going to use and handed them to the excited shavers who couldn't wait to attack the moustache.  To begin with they shaved off half of his moustache, Mr Kearsey looked funny when he only had half a moustache. A photographer from the Sutton Guardian  came to take pictures of Mr Kearsey, Mr Eley and the rest of the school. Children in year 6 held buckets outside school for parents to donate money. while this was happening Ellen and Liam finished off shaving the other half of the moustache.

This was all in aid to raise money for men with cancer.

Watch video of the great shave off & read news report in the Sutton Guardian.
