Year 5 have been reading and writing Greek Myths as part of their topic, The Ancient Greeks. They have had great fun creating and writing about their own mythical creatures.

Flipidies and the Diedra

"I ' m  sick of this horrible creature lurking about in our old temple!" Flipides exclaimed to his friend Dipidies.

Flipidies lived in Sparta and was considered a hero because he killed a sea monster that was disturbing the fish that lived there. Flipidies had full Greek battle amour on and a golden spear, but Flipidies was not very fast on his feet.

"I know it's taking up so much space!" replied Dipidies, eyeing the massive wall that surrounded the lair of the Diedra

That evening, Flipides pretended to be hacking at the Diedra's belly, even though he didn't know what the Diedra looked like. No one knew; no one that was alive.

"I'm going to kill that terrible Diedra!" started Flipidies.

"Well if you do you have to be careful," interrupted his father.

The next day, Flipidies walked up to the guard who was at the gate leading to the deadly Diedra's lair. "Can I go in?" Flipidies asked

"If you want but you will probably die," grinned the guard.

"Uh! Oh!" replied Flipidies sarcastically.

Flipidies descended in to the doorway of the lair. He immediately got lost. He looked around. He glanced behind him. BOOM! BOOM! Something was coming. Something big. Flipidies walked steadily to the right.

"OW!" He screamed. He just walked into something big and spikey.  A low pitch threatening growl rumbled in the room.  Standing in front of him was the mighty Diedra. A deadly battle took place. Flipidies was slow and it was hard to dodge the massive bulge on the Diedra's tail. However, the Diedra was not very clever. But the Diedra was just unstoppable.

Bang! The Diedra rammed its tail into Flipidies, sending him crashing against the wall. He made a quick decision. He smacked his fist against the wall causing the Diedra to fall underneath the rocks. The Diedra was dead.

The Storms of Athens

"Come on Astrapi, we don't have much time," said Arabella worriedly as she entered the cave. Arabella is the young and powerful daughter of the Goddess Athena. Athena created Astrapi (It is Greek for lightning) from light to protect Arabella. Arabella was sent to fight the Night-Hunter because it was causing storms that could flood her town, Athens. She was sent by the King as it was a debate who would go. In the past Arabella was a murder victim, the God Zeus tried to kill her by filling her cradle with water, but Astrapi the rabbit was about and saw. Zeus tried to kill her because she was half human half God and he was meant to be her father. Arabella had golden hair that glows green in the dark, a blue and silver dress and snow white skin. Astrapi is a rabbit with fluffy white fur that glows yellow in the dark. Arabella can create light and fire and Astrapi can run as fast as a lion and Arabella can fly. Arabella can't see very well and water mixed with her powers can be very dangerous, Astrapi can't fly.

As Arabella entered the cave she saw no deadly eyes staring at her, no terrible claws at her feet. The Night-Hunter had gone! "That's strange," she said as she turned around. Then she saw five deadly emerald green eyes staring at her and six terrible claws at her feet. The monster opened its mouth and with it came a mighty roar, you could see the silver needle-like teeth held in his jaws, his black scaly skin with stars on, his leathery wings and tail. He wasn't just a monster, he was a murderer. The battle had begun. Arabella and Astrapi ran for their lives.

Arabella shot a light-ball at the Night-Hunter. It injured him but it was only a minor injury. As the Night-Hunter chased them, Arabella flew backwards so she could see him. But because she wasn't looking where she was going, she crashed into some big rocks by the sea! Her powers started mixing with the sea water! Luckily because sea water has salt in it, it didn't make Arabella's powers dangerous, but it did make her unable to fly. She was in shock she was too frightened to use her powers now especially because the Night-Hunter was circling her as if she was his prey. Surprisingly the Night-Hunter didn't notice that Astrapi was still on the ground, he was too busy concentrating on Arabella. "Nothing can save me now." Arabella thought to herself, except Astrapi. He crept silently towards the Night-Hunter and leapt upon his back and started hopping all over it. It was burning the Night-Hunter alive! As he was distracted by the pain he took no notice of Arabella as she scrambled down from the rocks. When she was down, she too started burning the Night-Hunter until it was a pile of ashes. And now, thanks to Arabella and Astrapi the town was saved.

Vagoola and the Boja

"Out of all the warriors in the village I have chosen you to take on the Boja Vagoola," King Lagamour said "If you don't turn up The Boja will destroy the village of Crajudeen,"he added.

Vagoola was a strong elite warrior who had super powers. He could teleport, create animals, golden weapons and he could travel at super speed. Vagoola had beaten many monsters but The Boja is different, very different. He was the greatest monster that Vagoola had ever fought and Vagoola had fought some tough monsters.

"I'm going to do it," Vagoola said.

"Well I am very pleased" King Lagamour said. Vagoola set off on his journey to the nearby swamp. As he leapt over the muck on the floor, he saw the foot of The Boja and then the whole body. Vagoola had never seen anything like it.

The Boja attacked Vagoola but used his super speed to dodge it. Then Vagoola created a golden hammer to hit The Boja in the head. Vagoola thought he had won but as he turned around he saw The Boja throw goo all over him. The Boja was about to finish Vagoola off with a fireball but Vagoola created some tarantulas to get the goo off him and The Boja was too scared to do anything. After all the goo was gone, the tarantulas had lost all of their power and they had  vanished.

The battle carried on and The Boja had Vagoola in a spot that he could not get out of. Boja threw a fireball at Vagoola but he was teleported to another spot and when he got there a fireball was coming straight at him and he could not stop it!  It hit Vagoola in the tummy. Was Vagoola alive? Was it the end of the village of Crajudeen? Vagoola was getting up but struggling. As he got up, he used his special powers and changed the setting to a sunny place. The Boja was distracted by the sunny setting, so Vagoola created a golden sword and sliced the Boja to pieces.

Vagoola came back to the village feeling proud and said "I have killed the Boja."

"You are the greatest hero the village has ever had," King Lagamour said. All the people of Crajudeen celebrated with Vagoola and they all said he was the greatest hero ever.

Alive on one island

"Oh look how sweet she is!" Granddad said, in a sweet voice. There was once a girl called Suruh who lived with an old, forgetful wizard called Andras, who happened to be her Granddad. Her mother died when she was 3 years old and her dad went with the army to fight the Persians and was probably killed. One peaceful night, Suruh was woken up by a beautiful, shining star which seemed to be talking to her. "Suruh! You are chosen by the order of the stars to kill a beast called the Night Fury," said the star in an ancient voice. "Here's a star to keep on your neck and to remember me, you will have special powers. You might need some help, here is a magic cat to help you," said the star as it went away.

At first, Suruh wasn't surprised by the animal. She was wondering how a flying cat could help her defeat a deathless, creepy monster, until "Hello, Suruh," said the animal. "My name is Kitty." But Suruh wasn't screaming, or shouting, or crying. In fact, she was absolutely calm. As she came closer to the animal, she said with a smile, "let's be friends"

"Ok," said Kitty smiling. Since then they became great friends. When Suruh was 16, Kitty told her that it was time for her to go and kill the beast with her magic powers. So proving to Kitty that she wasn't scared of anything, Suruh followed Kitty to the deadly, spooky cave which looked empty.

The cave was surrounded with rocks and stones. It was echoey and very dark. "This is a perfect place for a surprise attack," said Kitty wisely. Suddenly, they saw something behind the rocks. Suruh entered the cave with a worried face. She thought that she might get wrinkles. Suddenly, at a maximum speed, the creature jumped on Suruh. Its huge emerald green eyes were staring at her. Just as the creature was about to blow fire Suruh sprayed a freezing fountain of water. The creature jumped off Suruh with an angry face. It turned around to face Suruh. Suruh was panting hard. Suddenly, the Fury flapped its wings and flew into the air. It was hunting like a falcon. While it was flying, it made a fire ring around Suruh so she couldn't run away. Kitty ran out of breath and went for a nap because there was a lot of steam. "Kitty! Are you all right?" asked Suruh in a worried voice.

The fire ring got tighter and tighter. More fire went upon Suruh. Just as it was about to hit her, Suruh sprayed water at the fire and at the beast. The beast flapped its wings and flew in to the air. It made a hurricane but Suruh shot more water and more and more and more until happily, the beast died. When Suruh and Kitty arrived home, Granddad asked where they had been, and Sururh said, "Oh, we have been having a walk." Although they had killed the monster, no one had realised it. So they decided to keep it a secret and wait for another chance to come.
