Every year a questionnaire about various aspects of the school and school life is sent to all parents and carers of children at Devonshire Primary School. The results of these questionnaires are taken very seriously and are read by staff and governors. Suggestions made by the parents and carers are taken on board and where appropriate, included in the school development plan. School staff, together with the governing body, are always striving to work together with parents, carers and children to make Devonshire an even better place.
The responses to the survey in 2014 indicated that 100% of Devonshire's parents and carers say that Devonshire has a happy atmosphere and that they are made to feel welcome when they come into school. Over 98% of parents and carers indicated that their child enjoys school and that they would find it easy to approach the school with questions or problems.
Over 97% of parents and carers feel that the fortnightly newsletter is helpful.
Only 65% of parents and carers consider that their child gets the right amount of work to do at home. The leadership team and school governors know, through speaking to parents and carers, that there are a range of views about the appropriate amount of homework for children in primary school. Time spent by parents and carers reading with their child at home should be thought of as 'homework' and this can easily be forgotten. The final paragraph of 'Building for the future' in Mr Kearsey's blog explains the importance of this time. The 2015 survey will give parents and carers an opportunity to express their views on this particular question in more detail.
Some of the comments that parents and carers have made about the school....
'The headteacher and staff are approachable and seem to genuinely care about the children.'
'The school made me very welcome when I first came to the school with my son.'
'A kind nurturing atmosphere is created by the headteacher and the staff.'
'My daughter settled very quickly when starting school and most importantly is happy.'
'The friendly atmosphere makes my child feel happy and secure.'
'Devonshire celebrates other cultures and languages.'

Thank you to all those who returned the questionnaires sent out in the Summer term. The school leaders and governing body use the results of this annual survey to help continue to improve school performance. A summary of the results of each annual survey is provided in the Devonshire Dispatch and on the school website. Another way for you to give your views about the school at any time of the school year (as well as updating your views) is to complete a short questionnaire at http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/.
This questionnaire (Parent View) has been set up by Ofsted to obtain the views of parents and carers about a school. The responses will be considered by Ofsted inspectors at the time of an inspection of a school. It also gives school leaders and the governing body valuable information now about what you think of the school and highlights where improvements can be made.
To complete the questionnaire you need an email address to register. Once your login has been activated, it only takes a few minutes to choose answers to 12 short questions about the school, such as how well the school deals with bullying, the quality of teaching, whether the level of homework given to your child is appropriate and whether you would recommend the school to other parents.
If you do not have a computer or an email address or if you would like help to use Parent View, please ask at the school office.
