Devonshire went sport mad during National School Sports Week!
In addition to the normal P.E. activities and sports extra curricular activities that take place each week, Devonshire held two sports mornings and our athletics team participated in District Sports during National School Sports Week.
Reception and Key Stage 1 children had a variety of activities to participate in as part of their sports morning. These included a space hopper relay, shooting basketballs into the hoop, skillfully directing a ball using a hockey stick around a series of cones, skipping and working together to keep a beanbag off the floor using a giant parachute. The morning of fun was rounded off with a series of sprint races and last but not least the parents' race. Here are some photos. The children worked hard during the morning and the PTA kindly rewarded them all with an ice-pop.
Children in Key Stage 2 also had a sports morning which all children participated in. Each year group had their own novelty race. Year 3 had the tricky task of standing in a circle holding hands with the children either side of them and passing a hoop around their circle without letting go of each other's hands. Year 4 had a balloon relay, racing to a chair with a balloon and popping it by sitting on it. Year 5 had a space hopper relay and Year 6 had a sponge relay where they had to try and transport as much water as possible from a bucket at one end of the field to a jug at the other end of the field using a sponge to carry the water. As well as all of this fun, there were the traditional sprints and relays too. Here are some photos. Every child earned team points for their team during the morning with the winning team being Saturn this year. All the children were given an ice-pop by the PTA.
