Police Academy Print E-mail

In the Autumn term 2010 some of Devonshire’s keen year 5 children joined a new initiative “ Police Academy”.  It was the brain child of PC John Carpenter from the Belmont Safer Neighbourhood Team.  The children learnt a lot about the police including the history of the police, how laws are made and the different ranks. They also experienced practical lessons in CPR, first aid and how to identify and take finger prints.  They had the opportunity to see the range of jobs done by the police and particularly enjoyed a visit from the police dogs.  They were able to try on and use different types of police uniforms and equipment. This all culminated in a passing out parade attended by their parents and a local police inspector.
