Well done to Divya in Year 4 who passed her grade one flute exam with merit and Richa in Year 5 who passed her grade three flute exam. If anyone is interested in taking up the flute from Year 2 upwards and would like a trial lesson please contact Mrs Campbell on This email address is being protected from spambots. Children in Key Stage 2 have a block of swimming lessons each year, usually lasting for half a term. The children make great progress with their swimming in these lessons. If you have the opportunity, please take your children swimming between these blocks of lessons so that they can practise the skills that they have learnt. This also means that when it is their next block of lessons they are not spending the first couple of lessons remembering their skills. Being able to swim is such a vital skill for children to have; we want to make sure that the children get the most out of their lessons. On the subject of swimming lessons, a big thank you to the parent and grandparent volunteers who help at swimming each week, their support makes our swimming lessons possible.

Thank you so much to the PSA who have worked very hard throughout the autumn term to raise money for the school.

During December alone, they:

  • organised a winter ball and a Christmas raffle event, both of which were very well attended;

  • donated £20 to every class so that they could do extra craft activities;

  • purchased Christmas crackers for the Christmas lunch;

  • paid for a pantomime company to visit Devonshire and every child from Reception to Year 6 watched a performance of Aladdin; and

  • organised a wreath-making workshop, open to everyone at Devonshire.

Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 performed 2 Christmas performances to their parents.

Key Stage 2 children had the opportunity to participate in the Junior Christmas Nativity, 138 children took part and it was standing room only in Christ Church as the children raised the roof with their fantastic singing and endless enthusiasm.

All children at Devonshire made a Christmas card and these were delivered to our neighbours, we have had many emails of thanks for these cards.

Our school kitchen made 552 Christmas meals.

The choir sang carols at 3 old people’s homes and at the PSA Christmas raffle event.

Thank you so much to all of our parent volunteers. The time that you give to Devonshire makes such a difference to the children and we really appreciate your help.

This year, children who have had excellent attendance (100%) and punctuality will be awarded with a special red attendance badge instead of a certificate. There are 3 badges to collect altogether. Blue for Spring term and Orange for Summer term. Children who have exemplary attendance all year will also receive an attendance medal at the end of the Summer term. I hope to be giving out lots of badges and medals this year. So don’t give up if you don’t get one this term. There are still lots of days left of the academic year and 2 more badges to aim for!

If it should snow heavily, we will use our website as our means of communicating whether or not the school will be open. Obviously this will only be applicable if it snows heavily.

As well as on our school website, there is another website which you can use to check whether schools are open and we will ensure that Devonshire’s status on this is kept up to date. The website is opencheck.atomwide.com.

Children who attend chess club on a Monday after school have been participating in an internal tournament and the results are as follows: Division 1 1st - Hayley, 2nd - Srot and Tanesha Division 2 1st - Bharath Players have been awarded with medals.  Well done to all players this term!
