Since half term, 3 members of our staff team have had some very exciting news. Mr Wells and his partner have had a baby boy, Noah. Also, Miss O’Mahony and her fiancé have had a baby boy, James, a fortnight ago. Mrs Logue started her maternity leave last Friday so we look forward to hearing her exciting news. Noah and James have visited Devonshire and are absolutely gorgeous.

Last week Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 performed their Christmas shows. The children and staff worked so hard and each performance was thoroughly enjoyed by parents and family members who came to watch. The thing that stood out in each performance was the children’s enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment at being part of the show. The children all knew their words, the song words and actions. Well done!

This year we had 2 performances of each show to enable more parents, carers and family members to be able to see the show.

In the last fortnight there have been several occasions where our children have been excellent ambassadors for our school and made us all very proud of them.

Year 4 went to The British Museum and every child in Year 4 received a merit mention because of their wonderful behaviour on the trip. Well done Year 4!

Our netballers won their first match of the season. Not only were we very proud of the final score (7-0) but we were equally proud of their team spirit when playing and watching the match. They have since gone on to win their next 2 matches. Well done to our netballers!

On Friday 10th November, every member of Devonshire observed the 2 minute silence as a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives or had their lives affected by wars. We all gathered in the Junior playground and stood quietly for 2 minutes. The children were extremely respectful.

On Friday 17th November, Devonshire went ‘Spotty’. Children wore their own clothes with a spotty theme and in exchange brought £1 in to school to raise money for Children in Need. At the end of the day, we had a special visit from Pudsey himself. Thank you for your kind donations. Congratulations to Laura, Riya and Vivi who won the Pudsey colouring competition for their Key Stage and are now the proud owners of their own Pudsey bears.

The Early Years team are currently revamping our Reception outdoor learning area. They have lots of exciting plans but need your help. They are looking for: - Anyone who knows somebody that could get us logs/ cut offs/ tree stumps. - Dressing up clothes and accessories e.g. bags, purses. - Large bits of cut off material - Old pots and pans.

If you can help out with any of these, please drop the items off at the school office who will pass them to the Reception team. Many thanks in advance for your help; it will help make the outdoor learning area an exciting learning zone for the children.

On Thursday 2nd November, our Year 1 classes visited London Zoo as part of their

‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ project. They had a fabulous time and saw many

different animals. All of the staff who accompanied the trip commented on how

well the children behaved and how proud they were of them. Well done Year 1!

On Friday 3rd November, our classes in Key Stage 2 were very busy being scientific as we had a science morning. Each class had a practical science project that the children were involved in, posing their own questions and carrying out investigations in order to answer them. Year 6 extracted DNA from a strawberry, Year 5 made balloon rockets and spinners. Year 4 worked on paper aeroplanes and Year 3 worked on magnetic materials. There was a lovely buzz of excitement in and around the classrooms as the children made their own discoveries and through this developed their scientific knowledge and understanding.

Congratulations to 6 of our Year 6 children who have passed their bikeability course.  There are 3 more courses taking place so watch this space for details of more Year 6 having passed.
