Introduction

The new year is an ideal time to make a fresh start and we all aim to set and achieve new goals.

Core curriculum areas

Literacy

The authors focused on this term will be Philip Ridley and Jenny Nimmo. We learn how to write explanations and stories set in different cultures, linking with our geography topic about India where possible.  We also investigate information texts.

4M constructing 3D modelsNumeracy

We will continue to learn a variety of strategies for developing number work. We put emphasis on learning tables and being able to calculate mentally. We will study place value, counting and number sequences, calculating (involving the four operations), fractions, handling data, shape and measuring.

Science

Our topics this term will be 'Moving and Growing' and 'Keeping Warm'. We will be participating in practical investigations and learning new scientific vocabulary.

Information and communication technology (ICT)

We will investigate repeating patterns using the Dazzle programme and use the internet for research.

Foundation subjects

Geography

We will be comparing a small village in India with our own environment, looking at physical and human features in each area.

Religious education (RE)

We continue to focus on major Christian festivals focusing on Lent and Easter, and also study the beliefs of the Hindu Religion.

Personal, social and health education (PSHE)

Our main theme will be 'Going for Goals' and 'It's good to be me'. This will give children the opportunity to reflect upon themselves and learn their strengths as a learner.

Art

We will be investigating pattern in Indian art and producing our own designs.

Design and Technology (DT)

We will be learning how to construct a variety of mechanisms and will incorporate these in a storybook.

Physical education (PE)

 This term we will develop our basketball skills and also be able to improve our gymnastics.

You can help at home

Please listen to your child read 4 times a week and help them learn their spellings and tables.

It is important that children arrive at School punctually and letters sent to School if your child is away.
