Introduction
Welcome to the summer term!! There are lots of activities planned for the children's final term in Devonshire including our residential trip to Alfriston. We will be continuing our revision for the SATs in May and will be focusing on our musical production for the second half term.
Core curriculum areas
Literacy
We will be studying Kensukes Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo this term and will be revising the art of critical commentaries on specified texts. Children will be encouraged to reflect critically on the text and make comparisons between this text and other novels by the same author in reading journals. Also, children will continue to practise their reading comprehension skills and their ability to read, analyse and produce examples of explanatory texts.
In word work children will be exploring the effect of figurative language focusing on rhetorical devices. They will develop their knowledge of prefixes and suffixes and devise mnemonics for challenging spellings.
Numeracy
Children will be investigating the four rules, money and real life problems, fractions, decimals and percentages. Investigations will also take place into data handling involving the analysis and construction of pie charts, line graphs and conversion charts. In addition, children will be developing their understanding of the properties of 2 and 3 D shapes.
Science
The children will focus on dissolving materials and how to separate solids and liquids from each other. They will also discover how materials may change through heat or reaction to another material and whether this change is reversible. The children will discover more about the natural world that can be found around them and comparing it to what they see at Alfriston.
