Year 2

Welcome to Year 2. We hope this page is helpful in setting out a few events, dates and costings you can expect whilst your child is in Year 2.  Hopefully having notice of these dates, will ensure you are able to clear your diary and book time off work if needed, as it would be lovely if all of our parents and carers could attend all of these events.

Over the summer we have enjoyed planning all the curriculum and enrichment activities that your children will enjoy over the coming year. Topics we will cover in Year 2 are:

Autumn term

· Muck, Mess and Mixtures

· Street detectives

Spring Term

 · Tunnels, Towers and Turrets

· Land Ahoy

Summer term

· Land Ahoy continued

· Wriggle and Crawl

Chaffinches: Our PE days are:  Wednesday and Thursday

Eagles: Our PE days are:  Wednesday  and Friday

Larks: Our PE days are:  Tuesday and Wednesday

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school on these days.

Indoor PE kit: yellow t-shirt, blue shorts

Outdoor PE kit: yellow t-shirt, blue shorts, tracksuit bottoms, tracksuit top and trainers

In PE we expect that the children remove any ear studs or do not wear earrings on PE days.

It has been lovely to see the children come back looking so smart in their school uniform. Please continue to support us in ensuring your child is coming into school with the correct uniform, shoes and equipment. It is also very helpful if all items of uniform are named, so if pieces of clothing are left out/lost they can be reunited with their owner as quickly as possible. As a quick reminder: winter uniform begins in the second half of autumn term.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and it is due to be handed in on Tuesday. Please encourage your child to complete this as independently as possible, although we are grateful for adult support.

Spelling lists will be given out on a Friday and should be handed in the following Thursday. We will not be doing a spelling test but there will be a short dictation each Thursday and we will be encouraging the pupils to use the spelling patterns in their writing.

Children are encouraged to work at these spellings every day.

Reading is a key part of the homework each week.

Please read with your child on a daily basis (at least five times a week). To enable us to check all reading record books we will collect them all in on a Tuesday. If your child takes home a reading book that they have had before, please use this opportunity to talk about story content and develop expression. Please sign the reading record so their books can be changed. Your child will be heard on a regular basis at school but again please be patient while routines are set up. Please feel free to add and comment on any books from home.

Pupils are reminded to change their books independently every morning if the book is finished and the contact book is signed by an adult at home.

To enhance learning children will be invited to join trips to:
