Year 3

Welcome to Year 3. We hope this page is helpful in setting out a few events, dates and costings you can expect whilst your child is in Year 3.  Hopefully having notice of these dates, will ensure you are able to clear your diary and book time off work if needed, as it would be lovely if all of our parents and carers could attend all of these events.

Over the summer we have enjoyed planning all the curriculum and enrichment activities that your children will enjoy over the coming year. Topics we will cover in Year 3 are:

Autumn term

Predators

Mighty Metals

Spring Term

Tremors – Volcanos and Earthquakes

Summer term

Flow

Tribal tales

PE

Our PE for the Autumn Term days are:

  • Ash – Monday and Thursday
  • Aspen – Tuesday and Friday
  • Birch – Wednesday and Thursday

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school on these days.

Indoor PE kit: yellow t-shirt, blue shorts

Outdoor PE kit: yellow t-shirt, blue shorts, tracksuit bottoms, tracksuit top and trainers

Swimming

We will be going swimming in the summer term. This will be on a Thursday.

Swimming kit: swimming costume/swimming shorts (not knee length), towel, swimming hat for long hair (boys included)

For both PE and swimming we expect that the children remove any ear studs and watches.

Uniform

It has been lovely to see the children come back looking so smart in their school uniform. Please continue to support us in ensuring your child is coming into school with the correct uniform, shoes and equipment. It is also very helpful if all items of uniform are named, so if pieces of clothing are left out/lost they can be reunited with their owner as quickly as possible. As a quick reminder: winter uniform begins in the second half of autumn term.

Homework

The children will receive Maths and English homework every week. The children will receive homework on a Friday.  This is due in on a Wednesday

The children are expected to read every day and have their contact book signed by an adult.

Fruit and Milk

In year 3 the children are not provided with fruit as part of the Government Scheme. If possible please can you provide you child with a small piece of fruit each day as they get hungry. If your child would like to have milk this can be ordered online, please see the school website for details.

Beginning and end of day:

It is important that children are in school as soon after 8.40am as possible as valuable basic skills such as spellings and tables are practised.

At the end of the day we dismiss at the same gate as your child enters in the morning. Any children not collected by 3.25 pm will be taken to the office.
